I'd suggest
1- putting your age in your profile and
2- being active in the forums to give us an idea of who you are!
:)
Yes, that would be a minimum. When you join a group it's implied that you're joining to participate. So far we haven't seen you participate at all.

Yes, that would be a minimum. When you join a group it's implied that you're joining to participate. So far we haven't seen you participate at all.I just found this site yesterday, and am still trying to find my way around. (It's huge compared to most message boards, in my limited experience.) I don't know how to show my age--which is 59, BTW. After this "welcome" though, I'm not sure I'm in such a friendly place after all. Was there something offensive about my earlier post?
No, it's not you. We are screening all applicants for this group. But if you hide your info and don't participate in any of our forums, we can't screen you. Simple as that.

Simple as that. Thanks for the answer, Skip. For the record, the first time I ever saw this site was yesterday, and it seemed really friendly and easy going. In looking around I saw lots of participants who are teenagers. Now, while I have nothing against teens--and have some lovely ones in my life--I was looking for discussions with people I might have more in common with. When I saw this group forming, I thought it would be fun. At no time did I intentionally "hide" my info, and the reason I hadn't yet participated in the forums was that I'd just gotten here. I don't know what you mean about "screening" people. BTW, I think the first thing I said about why I wanted to join the group was to state my age. I'm not a secretive or paranoid sort of person, but then I'm also not the type to apply for membership to exclusive clubs--I had no idea that's what I was doing. So, I guess it's a misunderstanding all around. Simple as that.

Censorship sucks man. If we want to join and we say we're over 50, why not let us? If we start doing things that are inappropriate, ban us. You're sounding like 'the man' now dude. 'No one with long hair allowed.' 'No sandals allowed.'
'conform to society or else'

We had changed the age to 40, but this was still around.

Thanks for the work on this web site, brother, great job, over the years. And Happy New Year!

Hey I'm new on the old Hippies page so hello, just wondering are there any other Vietnam Vets around here, were you like me ripped away from your peacefull life as a 19 or 20 year old hippie by the evil draft, sent to fight someone elses war and then got spit at and run down when you came home, total bad trip the whole thing. anyway Hello again.

Did any of you when you were young take to the streets to protest and fight the establishments uniformed pig's over a war you found yourself fighting anyway, do you ever wonder what happened to the age of aquarius, did it ever happen, what happened to the revolution, I'm still waiting, was it all worth it, did we change anything. We were going to change the world remember ? Oh well I don't know I guess it's time to just get old and forget.

Silver,
No, I wasn't ripped away . . . I drew draft number 238 (and I won't ever forget that number unless Alzheimer's takes my mind away). But as the son of a WWII vet, I was--and am--troubled by folks dumping upon 19-year-old draftees as if they got us into Vietnam. Drafted or not, we didn't create that appalling mess.
Getting old beats the alternative--we are both fortunate to have the opportunity to do so; however, I don't want to forget.
Peace to you, too. You're entitled to some.

was it all worth it, did we change anything. We were going to change the world remember ?
I think we changed some things...before us there was no such thing as organic foods in the stores, no one cared about the environment, no one protested wars, and what about the music? Where would the world be without the music? I can't imagine! My children grew up with a concern for the environment in their genes. Standing up to protest a war was a natural part of them. And they didn't even know that there was once a time when you were expected to conform to social norms and keep quiet. Looking at them as teenagers, I could see how radically different it was from my early teenage years. Maybe we changed a small part of the world...or at least we kept the world from changing us, to some degree.

You still remember your draft number, I don't, all I recall is that it was a You're going to fight someone elses war number, I did try to beat them anyway and get out of being in the Army, so I joined the Air Force, mistake I was made a door gunner on a Helicopter can't tell you how much fun that was. We were treated like shit when we came home from the war, but now anyone fighting in the Iraqi war and by the way not even half the war we were in, is a hero, I think now a days that word is used to loosley, the heros I can recall are victims of being sent as cannon fodder, what a shame 58,000 young men and some Women killed for nothing. Shame on you America shame on you, I hope these young people haunt your souls forever.

I looked at your profile where you described yourself as "politically conservative"...that doesn't seem to jive with your "takin' it to the streets" talk. By the way, I am 7 days older than you.I am a Libertarian, but we have no chance of ever holding power. When a libertarian does make it to the ballot I always vote for he or she but I know they will never win. If I must chose between a liberal and a conservative give me the conservative every time, I am sick of the liberals taking my money in the form of new taxes all the time. Conservatives are for smaller goverment and lower taxes both good things, but they lie along with the rest of them. So I am registered Independent and hop around when I vote and hope for the best. I'll have to look at my profile again but under the political choices I don't remember seeing Libertarian as a choice. As for taking to the streets I know it can''t happen the way we did it again, but damn it was fun and we meant what we were doing, I see little conviction in people today just a bunch of sheep. So you are a Capricorn also very cool, and you grew up at the same time I did, so you know what the times were like very heady times indeed things were changing all the time, but I think we failed with getting our message across, it was not to just stop the war it was so much more than that. I looked at your profile also you are 7 days younger not older, that makes you a young chick.

Conservatives are for a lot of things but i see little results. The government is the largest it's ever been and these guys call themselves conservatives. They spend or give the money that belongs to America away amongst themselves.
Liberals....... forget it they tax the middle class cleaning up after the republicans.
one thing i hate the liberal camp for is their obsession with politically correct behaviour.
If i have an opinion i get chastised like someone in catholic school.
But democrats are always in the news for having sex with chicks and screwing about with hookers (Spitzer) while republicans are likewise in the news for huffing choad in restrooms across america.

04-01-2008, 04:37 PM
Well said, but what choice do we have, try pushing a libertarian agenda, and this flock of sheep country we have will push it aside because they don't care to listen to what we have to say, No matter how much things change they always seem to remain the same. Down with new ideas, lets stay with what we think is safe. Look at what we have to choose from this year Obama, Clinton, McCain, My God, help us we are DOOMED. Ron Paul had no chance. Sad.

04-01-2008, 05:40 PM
You are right Scratcho, but I fear thing's would be the same with a Liberal goverment we would just be paying more of our money in new taxes and inane social programes that don't work. I do not advocate conservatism at all nor do I advocate a Liberal form of goverment, We just need to give a new way of thinking a chance. People just keep pulling the same handle as they always have ( or is that touching the same icon on a computer screen ) a LIbertarian style of Goverment would do that, if nothing else they would get goverment the hell out of our face. I don't know where this going, we just need to wise up and stop thinking that by putting the same people in office again and again things will change, they will not.

Silverhippy, I don't fit well as a democrat or republican either, but I would never vote for a republican. I agree with Scratcho...Bush has run the country into the ground. He and his people are power hungry madmen, and even though I knew it would be bad under his administration, it has turned out to be much worse than I ever imagined. My main reason for never voting republican is because I will not support a war. Second reason, well, the first reason is reason enough. I will take Bill Clinton's 8 years of peace and prosperity any day over where we are now. I don't think election day can get here soon enough.
You said I was 7 days younger...I'm not good at math (at all!), but if I was born on the 6th and you were born on the 13th, that means I was born first....<perhaps Silverhippy was counting backwards>. Anyway, that makes me older and more experienced. :)

one thing i hate the liberal camp for is their obsession with politically correct behaviour. If i have an opinion i get chastised like someone in catholic school.
That's also one of my pet peeves. I reserve the right to have an opinion without being hushed because it doesn't conform to the "right way of thinking."
I think I can't be a republican or a democrat because they are both part of a world in which I don't fit....and I'm ok with that.

You're right, damn I can't count, and since you are older I bow to your experience, so forget everything I said. If I remember things right the very cool war I was in was started by the democrats and ended by Nixon. So it just goes to show both parties are not to be trusted, I just don't like to keep giving my money away when the Dems get in. I don't know whats the answer to all this same old same old we get time after time. I really hate the fact any party would support the stupid war going on now, Iraq did not attack us, so why are we there, Vietnam did not attack us why did we die there ? Thanks for the welcome. I'm happy to be here...I like talking with reasonable people...it doesn't happen often in my daily life.
Why did we start a stupid war? hmmm...I saw a note on the wall in my father's bathroom (beside the toilet). (I guess it was for meditation!) It said, "If there is a situation that you just can't understand, look for the money interest." That really stuck with me and has helped me to figure out a lot of otherwise confusing things in my life.

Your dad may be on to something, war is good for the economy, it's like quick we need more flame throwers, and some big arms manufacturer get's busy and makes like 10,000 of these things and sells them to the goverment for like 20,000 bucks each and the money trickles down. I sure to hate to give my dad credit for something so profound, so let's just call it a "cosmic truth." But I see you understand what the game is. Humans never fail to come up with creative ways to destroy each other.
I am assuming you did some hard time in Vietnam. Sorry to hear about that.

Why did we start a stupid war? hmmm...I saw a note on the wall in my father's bathroom (beside the toilet). (I guess it was for meditation!) It said, "If there is a situation that you just can't understand, look for the money interest."

Go ahead give dad some credit, we gave our parents very little most of the time and in this case he is right. Yes Vietnam sucked but I think I had it a bit better than some I was in the air most were on the ground, and I feel they had it worse than me I think. But I don't like go around wearing the whole thing on my sleeve, It's just good to vent sometimes about how stupid war is.

It wasn't his original quote, but I will give him credit that he understands how money works. He's old enough now to have seen just about every evil mankind can produce. (I'm getting old enough to have seen a lot of it, too.)
As far as I am concerned, you can vent about Vietnam as much as you want to. If it needs to come out, then so be it. Better than building up inside you. If you didn't have pain left over from Vietnam, you wouldn't be much of a human being.

You understand, thanks I want to forget, it was long ago, but when we find ourselves in another stupid war it comes back. You're very cool and you have a good head, hang on to it, keeping you're head in a good place will get you through tough times. And we have both been around to see many bad things, hope it will stop soon. I have a thought ( don't think I am nuts ) we need like aliens to come down and attack us, maybe we could then get this world together to work for a common goal and forget about killing each other we only have this one world we should make the most of it and quit working against each other. Just a thought, beam us up scotty.

Very cool scratcho, I really don't think I believe in flying saucers, but I do believe there is life out there somewhere, I mean you have to, what ever you believe in the big bang, if that happened and that is where we came from then why not someplace else, or if you believe God did it, why would he only do it once, he is God after all, but it would be cool to make contact with them. Like I said maybe we could start to worry about them insted of warring among ourselves. Just a thought.

Silverhippy and Scratcho,
Warring aliens...a good idea...but with one drawback...if aliens attack us, almost guaranteed their technology would be better, so we would lose...or even might end up being dinner! I firmly believe in God, and I firmly believe that he didn't create this vast universe just for this tiny planet that revolves around a small star, somewhere about 2/3 of the way from center of a small galaxy. It would be a lot of wasted space if we were alone. I also believe aliens have watched us and may yet be watching us. I believe the government knows this, too, but doesn't want to admit it for several reasons: First, they don't think we would handle it well, and second, because they don't want to admit that the military is not able to control our air space...that they fly in and out at their pleasure. I think aliens would view us as undeveloped and immature, with a strong tendency for violence and a lack of concern for the planet we call home.

I work in Charlottesville (home of Thomas Jefferson), which is 90 miles southwest of DC. Parts of Maryland and Virginia seem to blend together in in the DC area. I'm not sure where the Air Force Base is exactly, but there are a lot of military bases in this area. I've lived in other parts of the country and world, but Virginia is where I was born and raised. Reminds me of an elegy titled, When All The Laughter Dies In Sorrow, that came out in the Chicago III album, 1971. It describes how a hypothetical alien would react when confronted by us silly humans.
When All The Laughter Dies In Sorrow
When all the laughter dies in sorrow
And the tears have risen to a flood
When all the wars have found a cause
In human wisdom and in blood
Do you think they'll cry in sadness
Do you think the eye will blink
Do you think they'll curse the madness
Do you even think they'll think
When all the great galactic systems
Sigh to a frozen halt in space
Do you think there will be some remnant
Of beauty of the human race
Do you think there will be a vestige
Or a sniffle or a cosmic tear
Do you think a greater thinking thing
Will give a damn that man was here

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh (suburbs), I have lived in Texas, Mississippi, and D.C. and the very cool places over seas I got to visit, but it was all military related, I have been to Richmond and of course Virginia Beach. Pittsburgh is not very cool but it is home. I did like living in D.C. it was close to home so on the weekends I could go home, it's like 4 hrs away, the part of D.C. I lived in was a bit confusing, never really knew what state I was in, while driving around, I think it was the fault of the evil beltway, who ever came up with that ?

If you were an alien flying by, impressed by the beautiful blue planet with the brilliant white clouds, you would imagine what happy and lucky life forms must be living there in such a peaceful place. Then you would pick up their radio and tv signals and just be appalled and the violence and hatred and war, and utter disregard for their children, their environment, and their future. Would you want to stop and visit? You would probably post a warning beacon to other ships to avoid this place at all costs.

I left for Europe in 1972, so I didn't watch it die. When I returned in 1976, it was gone...where have all the hippies gone? Hiding out somewhere, I guess.
In Atlanta, where I spent most of my time, late Fall 1971, they closed down the park and covered the strip with a heavy police presence...arresting people for loitering...and everyone scattered. The scene died in a matter of weeks.

Sorry, didn't mean to start a big pity party...I was just commenting on how you kept calling yourself old, yet I had no idea what that exactly meant. I don't discriminate against old people...some of my best friends are old people. In fact, I'm working on being one, too. I don't want to be young. yeah...time seems different now. I remember when I was a kid at my grandmother's house on Christmas eve. After dinner we would open presents, but the time between my finishing dinner and the time the old people got through talking, digesting their meal, drinking coffee, and getting up from the table....was an eternity!!!! Now it seems Christmas comes and goes in a blink and then it's almost Christmas time again. I remember really great times in my life that seemed to take up a good portion of my life and then I remember it only lasted about 6 months or a year. Not much out of 56. Perhaps we define our lives by the really good and really bad stuff and just blot out all the boring in betweens. [JulieAnn pontificating on Sunday morning.]
Oh, BTW go look at MySpace profile page. Yeah, I like Twinks as a matter of fact and occasionally I get one who loves my old ass. (oh, this isn't the old hippies forum or the old gay men forum - Lo Siento)

Perhaps we need an old, gay, hippie forum?Y'know my gay politics came later on. When I was living in communes, crash pads and within the New Orleans underground community, there was never a big deal made about sexual orientation.
In fact, I found it easy then to end up in bed with guys or girls. I identified as bi because of my ease with either in bed, not because I was political about it. It was only later when mostly gay guys took me to task for not claiming to be gay that I got into the sexual identification conflicts and became politically Bi.
So, guess what I'm saying - were there gay hippies or is that a redundancy. Are there any old hippies who have NEVER gotten intimate with a member of their own sex?
(Well of course there are - it was a rhetorical question of sorts. I've met pot smokin' good-ol-boys with long hair in Mississippi in those days who would no sooner admit to being gay than Ennis Delmar.)

JulieAnn---good morning. It seems when we're children there are no such things as minutes or hours.Oh ,we heard the grownups talk of such things, but they meant nothing except what time to be home for dinner,or when are we opening the presents,or some such.Personally,I was too busy riding my bike somewhere with my friends or getting into some mischief or other timeless pursuits. Then we start to pay some attention to them when we get older and they become somewhat significant when school is involved.Still didn't mean too much.Ah--then comes the workaday world. Now they start to mean much more.Life rolls on---nose somewhat to the 'grindstone' and all of a sudden-30 -40 and damn, where is the time going? It gets faster and faster and here we are in our 50s and 60s and holy shit---what happened??I tell my kids all the time,it's like Janis said--"get it while you can"--Dead is a long time,so if you want to do or get something---do it or get it!!Well, enjoy your Sunday.

So I figured I wasn't supposed to be keeping time in my life and never got another one. Time does seem to fly by, though. Maybe because we don't look at life with the same wonder we did as a child. Everything was a new experience then.
Good Sunday to you, too.

It is said that time is an illusion.
The past is but an illusion, the future is but a dream,
Now is all we have, that's why it's called present. :rainbow:

I've never been intimate with a member of my own sex. Never even occurred to me, actually. I like what men have to offer. Why would I want something I already have...I can look at breasts anytime I want to! Can we see?
Actually, I should have been gender specific. I think guys like old seafarers will do any old port(hole) in a storm. Men have been known to do sheep, so no reason they wouldn't do another man at the drop of a skivvies.

...It seems when we're children there are no such things as minutes or hours.Oh ,we heard the grownups talk of such things, but they meant nothing except what time to be home for dinner,or when are we opening the presents,or some such...and all of a sudden-30 -40 and damn, where is the time going? It gets faster and faster and here we are in our 50s and 60s and holy shit---what happened??...AARP (and don't deny you're a member  ) did an article on that phenomenon and it is not just perception but due to the fact that our brains like some smart computers filter out extraneous stuff that we have already encountered.
So as a kid and teen and even into the 20s you are encountering new experiences and they have impact and are recorded. As we get older, having seen the sun come up and go down thousands of times, driven the same roads, eaten the same foods, we are not recording as many new experiences and the time actually seems to pass quickly.
I've noticed this on long trips (overland from Europe to India) where a couple of months seemed like a year because everyday I was encountering everything new. Hmmm. So I shoud quit my job that I go to every day and do variations of the same thing day after day, put on a backpack and walk to India.
I've yet to see one benefit of being an AARP member. I was one, but I did it for hotel discounts, and when I finally tried to use it, they screwed me - The AARP rate left me paying for everything that was normally included in their regular room rate (parking & breakfast!). Their insurance is a rip-off so I don't know why anyone would join. It's just a scam on old ppl...
As far as India goes (I can't wait to go back!), Americans can now choose how long they want a visa for - from one to ten years!!!
This is probably a result of some bilateral agreement so Microsoft & other tech companies can have Indians come to America to work for long term for cheap!
But take advantage of it! When I was there in the 1980s, I was only allowed like three months. It went so fast I barely made it from Trivandrum (in the South) to Bombay (Mumbai now) in three months.
I think I need three more LIFETIMES to do the country right! (In addition to the many lifetimes I've already spent there!)

Sigh:
Please, let's not start to run each other down, age is relative, it's what's in your head that counts, not your stated age, I just put down my age because that's what my age is, never thought about it one way or the other, as for 19yo hippy chick's, you will not find them here on this page, I'm not sure you will find them anywhere, Hippies were a movement as much as anything else, yes you can still dress and act the part but would your head be the right place, I doubt it, it was an experience you had to live to get it, and that is all over now, you can't get it thru watching documentaries or listening to stories, how could you, yes you can try to live green and hope for peace world wide, smoke a joint and proclaim yourself a Hippy but is it real ? I think not, but keep thinking free and learn to love, and not hate that which you do not understand. Then look for others with a like mind and maybe to some extent it can make a come back, it would never be the same we were world wide. But today most peolpe seem sheep so to get them to break away and think for themselves seems unlikely. Anyway don't be put off about you're age I would not change mine unless I could go back to the same times and live it all over again, we did thing's others can only imagine. The best generation yet, who can say, I'm sure you will find many that would say NO, but I say yes.

Paul1968...don't worry if he's a stalker. If he is, his true colors will show in the words he writes. I've had a stalker for 11 years...he always pretends he's someone else, but his personality shows through even the most planned out emails, etc. He thinks he knows me, but he will never really know me because we come from different worlds.

yeah...time seems different now.
It's true, time flies faster that eyes can ever see, remember when we were young, we thought we would never grow old or die, we just lived for the moment. Silly children ? No just full of life, and we should stay that way life is what you make of it, so keep your dreams alive and we will live on and be strong.

PeaceThanks silverhippy,
Very well thought out post. I too share the same views as you do.
Unfortunately, many of the younger generation even those born right after the Woodstock generation seem to have difficulty grasping the meaning of "hippie", and basically no idea of what the 60s' was all about, other than what they heard from friends, watched from movies or the music they heard.
I'm in my 50's but I refuse to state my exact age.

Hippies were a movement as much as anything else,
Yes, that's very true.
It was a movement, it had it's roots and branched into different directions.
Unfortunately, for most of the later and younger generation, they had no clue what it was all about other than the cliches they heard, read or watched in movies.

Kent state was one of many tragic events that led to a change in America. Memorial day should include those that died protesting as well as those who died fighting. They were on the same side. The 68' Chicago Dem convention, the trial of the seven, the protests that helped stop the war. Because we cared enough to get involved, even those of us who wore a uniform. My draft # was 45. The one thing old hippies have is life experience, we know how to get people to listen to a new point of view. I don't want our grandsons to have to fight in the next generations war. Where is todays Abbey Hoffman? On another note, has anyone else had a popup that gives IP#,providers name,OS, and other computer ID info while on this site? Big Brother, you out there?

Amen to your Memorial day wish, but do not hold your breath waiting, the goverment will never recognize the protesters that they killed, Nixon made a sport of it so the rest of the sheep thought it was a good thing to gun them down. You are a draftee like me so you know how it feels to be made to fight a war you felt was unjust, lots of fun wasn't it. I'm not sure we want another Abby Hoffman or Jerry Rubin in our midst, they were the yippies, the whole Chicago thing was their fault, they went to start trouble and got what they wanted, they were the politically radical side of things and used we hippies to justify their own goals, they were not about peacefull conduct in protesting, and gave the rest of us a bad name. Don't know what you mean about the pop ups never saw one, but rest assured that big brother is every where. And here is something you did not hear when you came back from the war, Welcome home brother, a little late but better than never hearing it.

Old music, of course. 1967-1972 mostly, the golden age of rock. I like it all, but am particularly fond of the British. I like all the well-known groups, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, etc. but I also like a lot of more obscure, lesser known ones. San Francisco groups of that time like Quicksilver Messenger Service, Its a Beautiful Day, Moby Grape. I spent most of my early freak days in Atlanta, where bands played for free in the park on Sunday. Every Sunday that they were home, the Allman Brothers played for free...I loved those days.

So happy now, people are talking again, yes the British sound was great,of course the Beatles are great, but also the Moody Blues, I think my fav. British band ( on the threshold of a dream and Days of future Passed are both great albums ) also the San Francisco sound, Jefferson Airplain, and as you said Quicksilver was also great, a very good album is Anthology, one song on it is so hard for me to listen to ( Don't cry my lady love) takes me back to a little chick I loved so much, we were together so many years when we were young and loved each other so much but it was not meant to be, still cry when I listen to that song. The Band was very good too anyone have the Last Waltz very good stuff, and so many more great bands, but the blues always made me feel at home.

All I can say, as far a music is concerned, the music of our generation, those among us who grew up during the 60's, 70's, IMHO, our music ruled!
I admit, I have to give credit to some of the younger bands who occasionally make very good music as well, but for the most part, the music of our generation is still be best. It's now called Classic Rock.

Classic Moody Blues album
one of my favorites
----
Why do we never get an answer
When were knocking at the door?
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war.
Its where we stop and look around us
There is nothing that we need.
In a world of persecution
That is burning in its greed.
Why do we never get an answer
When were knocking at the door?
Because the truth is hard to swallow
Thats what the wall of love is for.
Its not the way that you say it
When you do those things to me.
Its more the way that you mean it
When you tell me what will be.
And when you stop and think about it
You wont believe its true.
That all the love youve been giving
Has all been meant for you.
Im looking for someone to change my life.
Im looking for a miracle in my life.
And if you could see what its done to me
To lose the the love I knew
Could safely lead me through.
Between the silence of the mountains
And the crashing of the sea
There lies a land I once lived in
And shes waiting there for me.

The Moody Blues have a way of making good music to go along with the wonderful lyrics. They're a real talented band.
Here's another good music video. Live from 1970.

Very true.
I noticed nowadays, the younger generations' lyrics tend to be rather quite shallow...
Back in the day, the best music of our generation made one appreciate the good music and also think.

There's just no comparison. Steve Winwood (Traffic) once said about that time, "It was a time when millions of people reached up above the earth and touched one another."

Traffic is one of my favorites also, a good album was traffic on the road, I think some of it was live some not, shoot out at the fantasy factory, what is the song that goes Sometimes I feel so uninspired some times I feel like giving up ? I can't think of the name of that song, or maybe it is just ( sometimes I feel so uninspired ) can't remember.

The title is actually Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired
Sometimes I feel so uninspired
Sometimes I feel like giving up
Sometimes I feel so very tired
Sometimes I feel like I've had enough
Sometimes you feel like you've been hired
Sometimes you feel like you've been bought
Sometimes you feel like your room's been wired
Sometimes you feel like you've been caught
But don't let it get you down
There is no reason for not failing
You've got to smile and turn the other cheek
So today you might get up
But by tomorrow you'll be sailing
And you won't even hear these words I speak
Some people want to be so desired
Some people can't stand the light of day
Somebody's laughing while someone is crying
But for to want in the close of the day
But sometimes I feel like my head is spinning
I'm gonna cave with all I see
I don't know who's losing and I don't care who's winning
Hardship and trouble following me

Well, there was a drug bust, several members of the band, the road manager, and, of course, Greg. Greg testified against everyone so that he wouldn't have to go to jail.
I'm not touting a pro-drug agenda here...I just have a serious problem with someone who gets caught doing something along with everyone else, but makes a deal for himself that keeps him out of jail and gives his friends stiffer sentences.
If he had been a big anti-drug person and told on people, at least he would have been true to himself, but he was just keeping his head above water by stepping on his friends heads. Says a lot about his personality. Thankfully, Duane had already died and did not have to witness this.
So, anyway, Greg went on with his career, making money, using the Allman Brothers name, while his friends sat in prison. A sniveling, cowardly, self-serving person.
Even though the authorities often use these kind of people to get convictions, they too think they are disgusting.
You can read about it on the internet.

If you are from that area you may know what I'm talking about, though you may be too young.Yes Duane was very cool, I mean who can play the slide Guitar like he did, I think no one, yeah Dickey Betts was good at it but he is not Duane, Dickey is best at lead guitar, they were at there best with Duane and Dickey trading guitar lick's, I know what you mean about Greg, I guess he turned Narc to save his own ass, but still the band would never have been as good with out him, great Organ player, good on the acoustic guitar, but his vocals made the band, listen to ( It not my cross to bear) just super, but the whole Cher thing still does not make sense. Great band though
