Hi everyone!

My name is Sofie, I'm 16, and I live in Portugal...

Last year I inscribed myself to go to the US in 2007/08 as an exchange student, live with a host family and attend to a High School. Everything would have gone great if I hadn't check the field asking if I was a vegetarian...
Now the time to get a host family is running out and, besides loosing a lot of money, I won't be able to study in the USA as I've always dreamed of.

The worse thing is that since my inscription I was told by my doctor that I had to eat at least fish and that I had to try to eat white meat (chicken). But I can't change my file now...

I was wondering if there was someone, out there, who would like to be my host family...

Further information:

"Do you want to know how you can help me? Well, it ain't that hard.
The thing is that I can get myself a family (it usually is ASSE who takes care of that, but this year it has been harder). And YOU can help me by talking to you relatives, neighbors and friends about this and trying to find someone who wishes to be my Hosting Family.

This is an exchange program for international students who want to study in the US. The hosting family just needs to share with me like "bed and breakfast"... The student pays himself/herself all their personal things (like shampoo and snacks). You can read more about it at http://www.asse.com/United_States/host_about.htm .

About myself...
I've always wanted to study in the US. It's like my life dream. Besides, I want to study cartoon animation on college, and there is no such thing in Portugal.
If you want to know more about me or something, note me.

Hum... I guess this is it. I would be grateful to you for the rest of my life if you could get me a hosting family.

Oh, btw, if you want to be my hosting family (or someone you know wants to) don't talk to ASSE, e-mail me instead and I'll tell you what to do http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/images/smilies/smiley.gif. (e-mail: sofisofas@hotmail.com)"

Thank you just for reading this,
Sofie

I can't really help you with the laws in portugal.
but here in the states schools have to provide a vegitarian alternative at lunch.
there are no laws against it.

however, some host famillies would have to go out of their ways to provide a vegitarian alternative, maybe if you could prove that you would be able to get your own sources of protien it might smooth things over.

good luck here in the states, it isn't the land of milk and honey.
