I just want to say I'm REALLY glad that Nay recommened I pick up this book.
I'm definitely going to have to read more books by Jeff Noon, that is for sure.

Vurt
is a wild trip from the perspective of Scribble, one of the Stash Riders.
You travel with him on this journey for him to try to find the one person he has lost to the Vurt, his sister Desdemona. She had gotten lost to the Vurt when they both were on a feather trip and she got lost in a Meta feather in the middle of the trip.

The book is an intense ride through about a month (in real time) in the life of Scribble and the Stash Riders. You get to experience what they go through as they are chased by shadow cops and flesh cops, and as they keep an eye out for those elusive purple/green dream snakes that lurk in dark places waiting to strike out at the unexpecting.

From bots with droidlocks to dogpeople, crustys to vurtpeople, and feathers ... lots of feathers ... every page seems to give you a new experience.

My favourite characters in the book, I must admit, were sort of side-plot characters called Tristan and Suze. They were a loving couple, who both had droidlocks and had spent so much time together that their droidlocks had grown together so it seemed like there was a river of hair connecting them at all times. I loved the connection that those two have for each other, and the immense love.

I was surprised greatly by this book. I've never really read anything that would be classed as 'cyber-punk' before, but I'd say that this book has really opened my eyes to wanting to learn more and read more cyber-punk fiction. Vurt was also an emotional journey. I found myself laughing at times, with some of the silly things that occurred, and literally bursting into tears later on at something that happened to touch me deeply.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in taking an interesting trip and discovering just what the Vurt world is all about.
